The fabrics of our custom-made abayas (silks, fine crepes, delicate satins, cool wools) don't like soapy water, uncontrolled steam, or splashes. Keep this simple habit in mind: remove the abaya before any wet action to preserve its drape.
Before washing your hands, cooking, or spraying perfume or deodorant, remove your abaya. Micro-droplets eventually form a dull film, especially on matte materials, and can mottle satins: the surface loses its brightness and creases become more pronounced.
In these rushed moments, we fail to take precautions: a bad combination for sensitive fabrics. Products that are supposedly "harmless" to the skin—soaps, lotions, perfumes—end up altering the fibers and colors.
Most custom-made pieces prefer gentle pressing: mild solvents and a short cycle. Home baths stretch the wefts, distort the drape, and dull the finish.
Machine washing, even at "20°C hand wash", is prohibited for our fine crepes and satins. Fabric softener loosens the fibers and gives a limp appearance: avoid. Tumble drying shrinks and breaks the drape: avoid.
